Haient was founded in 2019 by an acoustic engineer and a cabinetmaker who could not find a loudspeaker they wanted to keep for thirty years. So they built one. Then a second. Then, slowly, a small atelier grew around the two of them in Finland.
Loudspeakers should not disappear into a rack. They live in the room longer than the amplifier, longer than the record player, sometimes longer than the wall they stand against. We build them accordingly — as objects, not appliances.
A small workshop in Tampere, Finland. One acoustic engineer, three cabinetmakers, a finisher, a machinist, and the founders. We build fewer than two hundred pairs a year.
Every cabinet is built by a single cabinetmaker from the first cut to the last coat of oil. Their initials are burnt into the underside of the plinth. Our warranty follows them, not us — a Haient can be re-serviced by any competent workshop in fifty years' time.
Solid European oak from FSC-certified forests in Jutland and Bavaria. Plant-oil finishes, cotton damping, copper wire. No MDF, no laminates, no glued veneers, no plastics inside the acoustic chamber.
Our acoustic engineer's brief has never changed: the recording is the truth, and the speaker should return it to the room without commentary. Every crossover is prototyped by ear over months, not tuned to a measurement curve.
The industry is moving toward disposable, sealed, wireless. We move the other way — more serviceable, more analogue, more permanent. We think the two futures can coexist. We build for the second.
